[using his newly reactivated network login, Kit authenticates into the network for the first time since his return to Aifaran. He's sitting in his small dormitory room at the Dreaming Bridge, leaning against his desk and looking distracted.]

Hey. [pause,] So, looks like I'm back.

[and lots of familiar faces, once sources of comfort, are gone.]

...this might be a tall order, but um. [Whatever question he's sitting on, it looks like he dreads hearing the answer.] Don't suppose anyone here has seen Flekk? He's small--about nug-size, [he makes general size estimate with his hands that ought to indicate that whoever, or whatever, Flekk is, he probably isn't a person,] brown spots, one of his wings is a little lame. He's a little timid of strangers, so I don't know if anyone was able to grab him after I-- [another pause.] ...well, you know.

[he scratches the bridge of his nose and folds his arms over his chest.] Anyway, if you've seen him, just drop me a line. Sure would like to have him back.

I uploaded some videos of him to the network last time I was here. This is what he looks like. [and he passes along the link to Nita, revealing Flekk to be a particularly adorable bibiru with a penchant for binkying very cutely without warning.]

[Nita finds herself smiling, and subsequently hard to stop.]

Aw, he's adorable!

Yeah, I'll definitely keep an eye out. Is his species common here in the city?

[a puzzled look, before he seems to remember--right, she's new.]

He's a bibiru, yeah. I don't know where they're from originally, but they were here in Aifaran when I got here the first time.

[he gazes fondly at the video of Flekk binkying around.] Cute little guys tho, aren't they.

[Nita nods.]

No kidding!

... They don't use collars on pets here, do they?

[She might have seen some, only to have misfiled it as just another cultural thing.]

I think they do. I had a little harness I'd put on Flekk when I'd take him out for a walk--he'd bolt otherwise, he's a skittish little guy.

If his name was on it... it might still be on him?

[Flekk does indeed look skittish - and yes, Nita's still replaying the video.]

[There's a stunned-looking Trahearne here peering down at his yimo, his leaves a bit ruffled but his demeanor cheery regardless.]

Kit? Why, it is you! I haven't seen you in - well, I don't know how long, exactly. I daresay I was preoccupied.

I haven't seen Flekk, but let me know if there's any other way I can help.

[now there's a familiar face, finally. Kit cracks a broad grin at the sight of Trahearne.]

It's been a minute or several, that's for sure. How've you been?

[as for Flekk,] just keep an eye out for him, if you can.

[He responds with a smile,] I've been well enough. If there's one thing to say about Aifaran, it's that nothing ever quite stays the same.

And speaking of that... quite a bit has happened here. I imagine you've probably seen some of the damage inflicted from the massive storm we suffered three months ago. Or the strange trees that it left behind.

Yeah, I'd wondered about that.

[Already his broad grin is fading to something more pensive and troubled; it had of course been too much to hope for that his return to Aifaran would be met with a period of relative calm and quiet.] Seems like this place is always on the cusp of coming apart at the seams, doesn't it?

[Trahearne's expression sobers as well. He brings a hand up to rub at his chin,]

There has been quite a bit of unstable magical activity. Given what it's said to be like outside of the barrier, is it any wonder?

No, I guess not.

I never saw the outside of the barrier. I know that Rutile has, but-- [there he goes quiet, looking askance with a grimace.] ...they're gone too, aren't they?

I'm sorry, Kit. I haven't seen Rutile in weeks.

You also aren't the first to return back here after an absence. I'm starting to wonder if the Dreaming has a tighter grip on some of us than it does on others.

[silence follows Trahearne's words; for a personable fellow, Kit so very rarely allows anyone else close. Rutile had been one of the few exceptions in this place.

Probably better for them to have gone back anyhow. If you've got someplace to go home to, someplace you miss, I can't imagine anyone would prefer being away from it.

Oh, you mean this little cutie? [Miles holds the bibiru up to the camera.]

Hey there, buddy! [and it should be clear by his tone of voice that Kit is addressing Flekk first, though the grateful look in his eyes is obviously for Miles.] He looks really good, salroka, thanks for looking out for him.
