Well, uh, at least for humans - and judging from how so many are taking it, most other species here - there's bones and stuff, right inside the ear.

And those are real sensitive, moreso when the bones are small. So imagine that, right next to where your brain interprets the signals.

Bones sound like more trouble than they're worth. You're breaking them all the time, this kind of stuff happens...how do you vertebrates even deal with that?

Mostly, we just deal.

Try to avoid those kinds of injuries, drink things to strengthen whatever our bones are made of...

Avoid standing close to speakers, for basically the same reason this is hurting our ears right now.

Way more common an event than these pulses, though.

Maybe right away we wouldn't notice it, but over time yeah. It builds up, if you damage it regularly.

Well, they don't move by any widely known methods of propulsion, Melias is apparently in charge of them, and they have these... arches on their prows.

I've tried to have words with them, see how they're feeling. Couldn't get much more than a notion of amusement at the conversation attempt itself.

Yeah; it's because I know the Speech. It's- more-or-less the language all Life understands. There's not normally a limit on what kind of life it has to be.

It's still a learnable language, though.

No? I mean, everyone else can, so I guess I should be able to. It's not like I can't hear stuff ever, I mean, I love music, but this is weird.

Yeah, if you couldn't hear anything, you wouldn't be able to hear what I'm saying. Or, as you said, music.

So this has to be a different kind of sound then.
