video; backdated to during the sound pulses
[There's a squidkid on the screen, looking extremely puzzled.]
So...what's everyone freaking out about? I don't get it. You guys are hearing something?
So...what's everyone freaking out about? I don't get it. You guys are hearing something?
Yeah. The vibrations are probably passing right through you.
... In a literal sense.
[Nita can't say she doesn't envy that right now.]
[This small child knows nothing about how fluid dynamics or lack of bones would affect this.]
Re: [video]
And those are real sensitive, moreso when the bones are small. So imagine that, right next to where your brain interprets the signals.
[Beat.]
Bones sound like more trouble than they're worth. You're breaking them all the time, this kind of stuff happens...how do you vertebrates even deal with that?
Re: [video]
[Not an answer, Nita.]
Try to avoid those kinds of injuries, drink things to strengthen whatever our bones are made of...
Avoid standing close to speakers, for basically the same reason this is hurting our ears right now.
[Or more, in several cases.]
Way more common an event than these pulses, though.
[Young Inkling culture is pretty much entirely based around fashion and music. Don't question it.]
Re: [video]
[Nita does not want to go down that road right now, anyway.]
Wish this was as... regular...
[But- there'd been a pattern, hadn't there?]
Or that knowing its pattern would help us stop it.
[Which was, frankly, the more important part.]
So where's it coming from? If it's like a speaker, you could unplug it, or something. Oh! Or maybe I could! Since it's not making me sick!
Re: [video]
Though, uh, given what I've learned about them, I don't think they'd appreciate people trying to find a plug in them.
[Please don't get yourself potentially worse-than-splatted, Kai. Nita doesn't want that fate for you!]

Re: [video]
Well, they don't move by any widely known methods of propulsion, Melias is apparently in charge of them, and they have these... arches on their prows.
[Kind of like worldgates, come to think of it.]
I've tried to have words with them, see how they're feeling. Couldn't get much more than a notion of amusement at the conversation attempt itself.
Wait, they can talk back, sort of?
[Beat.]
Wait, you can talk to them?
Re: [video]
Yeah; it's because I know the Speech. It's- more-or-less the language all Life understands. There's not normally a limit on what kind of life it has to be.
It's still a learnable language, though.
Video
You can't hear anything?
Video
Re: Video
Yeah, if you couldn't hear anything, you wouldn't be able to hear what I'm saying. Or, as you said, music.
So this has to be a different kind of sound then.
[ What kind, she has no idea. ]
