[ Considering the last instance of Yato's face being flashed all over the network - and the rest of the city, for that matter - was a horribly unflattering picture of him, one could be forgiven for almost not immediately realizing that this is the same person. But it is! Though he looks far more subdued than most people in Aifaran have ever seen him. ]

Hey, Aifaran. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I'm back. Or-- if you don't remember me...

[ The way he says it is quiet, like he expects that to be the case. ]

[ OOC - For those unfamiliar, the living can easily forget about Far Shore beings like Yato once he's not around, even up to the point where their memories alter themselves to exclude him. Feel free to have your character remember him or not - even if they don't at first, their memories are likely to come back once they start interacting with him again. ]

[It would be a lie to say that Pepper managed to hold onto all of her memories of Yato - they'd gotten fuzzier and fuzzier, though seeing Ilda's signs posted all over the place and talking with her helped maintain them in a limited capacity. In short, she remembers that she knows him, but not all the details yet.

There's something achy in her heart when she sees him that she can't identify, but Pepper greets him with a broad smile.]

Nice to re-meet you. You are in so much trouble.

Yeeeah, figured as much.

[Yato's eyes can hardly be called anything but striking, and that paired with his smile sharpens her recollections just a little bit. Dork god? Dork god. It'll come back to her.]

I think we're going to have to institute a buddy system or something so you can't vanish on us again. [This is clearly teasing.] Which means you have to come with me to one of the street fairs and eat waaay too much candy. It's protocol.

[More seriously:] Did anyone tell you how long you've been gone? [She... might be able to answer that question if she concentrates hard enough.] Did you go home or did you just lose a chunk of time? Are you okay?

[ his grin flickers just briefly when she asks about his time "away" ]

I can make a guess. I didn't go home, but there was... I don't know. Dreams, I guess. Makes sense right?

I think I'll concede the position of First Buddy without a fight, but I'll totally take up another slot in the rankings. Preeeetty sure it's not worth trying to take that from her.

[She nods to the last, looking thoughtful.]

Yeah. It happens sometimes, and not everyone has something to remember. I'm glad you're back, wherever you went. [More lighthearted:] You're way more fun than most of the gods around here.

[ faintly fond: ] She reminds me a lot of Hiyori, in a lot of ways.

[ he looks mock indignant ]

What?? You mean there are gods around here who are still more fun than me?

Wait, are there other gods here now??

[Yato's fake ire sparks cheerful laughter, and Pepper shakes her head.]

Not really. None that I've met, anyway. Some of the religious people around here would probably argue their deities are here, but I try not to get into those kinds of conversations.

And I tease one of my friends about being a space god, but he's grade A human, too. [Mostly. In all the ways that count.]

Hiyori is someone from home?

[ agreeably: ] No reason to think that they're not here. It's not like they'd have a reason to talk to someone like me.

Space god, huh? Now that's a cool nickname.

Yeah, she is. She uh, tried to save me from being run over by a bus while I was trying to catch Milord - the cat - and got hit herself. She was fine, but it sort of... knocked her soul out of her body. Now it slips out a lot, and she made a wish that I could get her sorted out, but... I'm not exactly sure how to do that yet.

[ Well, he is, but it's not a method he really wants to act on. ]

She's pretty great, but kind of bossy. I owe her a lot though.

I like her already, [Pepper says with a grin. It'd be cool to meet Hiyori someday, but she won't hold her breath.] I'm glad you have someone like that around to either get you into or keep you out of trouble.

I didn't realize souls were so... detachable, though. I mean, back in Keeliai we had these things called soul gems that were literally supposed to be our souls, or anchors for our souls, in jewelry. Which meant they could actually get lost - or stolen - but what you're talking about sounds like more of a permanent-ish problem.
