05 ☘ video
[Trahearne is sitting in a chair, holding in his lap the splintered remains of a broken sword. It's not made of metal, but rather out of vines and wood, and though it's large it appears at one point to have been much bigger.]
This is what we recovered last month. This is Caladbolg, a thorn taken from the Pale Tree and given to her first champion before being passed on to me. This sword has been my companion for quite some time, before... before it was broken. Though Caladbolg is a living thing, its power has been greatly diminished. I believe the effects we saw when we recovered it was the result of the last spark of magic it had left.
[Then, Trahearne reaches forward and picks up a small object from just off-screen. What he shows to the camera is a piece of wood that matches Caladbolg exactly, but the patterns of growth on it are a much healthier shade of green.]
I found this on the roof. I have no explanation for how it got there, but this is a piece of Caladbolg. If enough pieces have found their way here, there's still some hope left of restoring the sword to its original state - reforging it, if you will. Caladbolg was powerful, once, but even if it can't be completely restored... I feel that I owe at least that much to an old friend.
If anyone finds more pieces like this, even if you're not sure if it's from Caladbolg, please bring them to me. This is more important to me than mere words can express.
(OOC: This kicks off the second part of the Caladbolg plot, open to everyone that signs up for it here!)

I wish our quest had yielded better results for you--but of course, I will bring you whatever I can find.
[implying that he does intend to make a bit of a search for the shards.]

Thank you, Fool. In truth, this is one of the better outcomes. To find Caladbolg here at all is more than I ever hoped for.

The loss of a sacred object can be devastating, particularly when it carries significance.
I am no expert on Caladbolg's make, but I do frequent the lands outside city limits, and I will certainly do my best to keep an eye out for this particular specimen. Do you have any more details of its composition you can share? That may help with identification.

I suppose it is a sacred object, at that. My best suggestion is to keep your eyes open for this particular color of wood. On my world, such a thing could only have come from the Pale Tree. I'd be surprised if this place has anything quite so similar.
But if you can sense magic, the pieces may very well have some small trace of it left in them.
Re: video
Magic is not something inherent to my kind; unfortunately, I am limited to my senses.
I imagine given its value you would not be amenable to chemical testing, which may help identify pieces faster--or at the very least, would let us know whether we had found one.
Re: video
If doing so would harm the wood, I have to decline. I can't allow it to be damaged any further. Don't worry about identifying what you find - it it belongs to Caladbolg, I'll know.
