[It's dark. Whoever's broadcasting is outside in the middle of the night, and the camera slowly adjusts to the little amount of light filtering in from the stars and the barrier overhead.

When the broadcaster speaks, her voice is almost too hoarse to be recognizable, but it's Aly. She speaks quietly, but firmly.]

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
With what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire-- [And at that word, an angry gout of crimson flame flares up from her hands for a moment before disappearing.]
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate-- [The fire flares up again.]
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And will suffice.

[As she reaches to turn off the feed, something that looks a lot like blood can be seen smeared around her mouth.]

hello, network.
i am era ra.
there are others who can see this
that was a question. i do not yet know how to access the other punctuation symbols.

my occupation where i come from is that of an adventurer.
i have a variety of skills if anyone is in need of assistance. i am particularly talented in disciplines of combat, but am a skilled botanist, leatherworker, and goldsmith. i like to keep busy.

i was told that they are safe, but i am searching for some incredibly important possessions of mine that may have arrived without me. they are thirteen crystals of various colours and shapes that can fit within the palm of one's hand. each has a single symbol etched within it. all of them are unique.

i have nothing of value i can offer in return at the moment, but should any of you come across them i would be grateful if they were returned to me.

i hope you are all well. i look forward to meeting you.

If anyone out there, Dreamfolk or no, is missing anything -- or anyone -- thanks to the storm, make a note of it here. If enough of us know, we can help each other find as much of it as we can.

I'll go first. Has anyone seen Ilda? She's a bright and cheerful young woman, pale skin and blonde hair. I haven't been able to find her and I'm worried she's hurt.

X

[It still feels strange, putting his name on something public like this. But if that would make it easier for Ilda to reach him, then the choice is easy to make.]

[Trahearne is sitting in a chair, holding in his lap the splintered remains of a broken sword. It's not made of metal, but rather out of vines and wood, and though it's large it appears at one point to have been much bigger.]

This is what we recovered last month. This is Caladbolg, a thorn taken from the Pale Tree and given to her first champion before being passed on to me. This sword has been my companion for quite some time, before... before it was broken. Though Caladbolg is a living thing, its power has been greatly diminished. I believe the effects we saw when we recovered it was the result of the last spark of magic it had left.

[Then, Trahearne reaches forward and picks up a small object from just off-screen. What he shows to the camera is a piece of wood that matches Caladbolg exactly, but the patterns of growth on it are a much healthier shade of green.]

I found this on the roof. I have no explanation for how it got there, but this is a piece of Caladbolg. If enough pieces have found their way here, there's still some hope left of restoring the sword to its original state - reforging it, if you will. Caladbolg was powerful, once, but even if it can't be completely restored... I feel that I owe at least that much to an old friend.

If anyone finds more pieces like this, even if you're not sure if it's from Caladbolg, please bring them to me. This is more important to me than mere words can express.

(OOC: This kicks off the second part of the Caladbolg plot, open to everyone that signs up for it here!)

[Trahearne doesn't normally use the video option on these devices, but he is now, and he looks troubled.]

I have discovered a brewing situation, and I believe I'll need help facing it.

Let me explain. I had a conversation with the Fool last month that lead me to think that something from my world might soon pass through to Aifaran. While I haven't found any proof of that yet, I've been keeping an eye on the news ever since, and there's reports coming in of some strange events happening outside the city. In one region, there's been sightings of aphaufa wandering away from their herds and curamjija going out of their way to attack people.

[There's a rustling sound as Trahearne lifts a paper map off of his lap, obscuring his face as he holds it up for the camera. There's a lot of little red 'x' marks, mostly congregating near a forested area on the archipelago.]

I don't know if this is related to my problem, but I have a feeling that I shouldn't ignore this. [He lowers the map just enough to see the camera again,] So, who's interested in taking a day trip with me?

(OOC: Consider this post an unofficial sign-up for a log I'll be doing soon! I'm only looking to take a handful of people, but don't worry about missing out, there'll be a game-wide portion of this plot in December for everyone.)

[In the early twilight hours of a very hot and muggy morning, there's video on the network showing nothing but a dark wall. It might be some kind of misdial, except misdials on the network in Aifaran aren't possible. A prank, maybe, but X's name is attached to the video. What kind of prankster doesn't remain anonymous?]

Can we --

[He cuts off, with a pained yelp like he just stubbed his toe on something. He's still not in frame.]

-- go to hell.

[For anyone who's known X longer than a couple of minutes, the fury in his voice, the ragged scream, even the phrasing -- all of it is so incredibly uncharacteristic that X seems to frighten even himself.]

No. No. You're all wrong. Your family was wrong, you're -- you are better than you think you are. It can't be over. Nothing is ever over, not even when -- you think you're safe, you know, you think you know what life is all about, and then you look up and there's fire in the sky over your home and you never see it again. But let's face it, who am I to lecture upon what is reality and what is myth?

[If it sounds like the haggard and broken rambling of someone who's insane, that's because it is.]

No, wait -- sorry. Sorry, I'm… I don't. I don't know.

[The camera finally moves, slowly, and X appears. He looks terrible. He looks like a child who's woken up from a night terror, drawn in and crying, desperate for help. The sight of his own face on the camera makes him stare.]

Oh.

I'm sorry. I'm -- I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. I swear, I didn't mean to.

[The video cuts off there. Whether on purpose or by accident is anyone's guess.]

(OOC: It might take X a bit to respond to anyone, so please feel free to threadjack each other in the meantime!)

Hey there, Aifaran.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm officially opening the Konryu branch of Stark Solutions.

I do repairs and custom technology solutions for... just about everything. I've done everything from skyscrapers and jet fleets to disco roombas. Oh, and flying power armor. If you've seen one of those around, that's me. Not taking commissions for those right now, but that's some of my work. You can call it proof of concept.

If you want a consultation on a project, contact me for an appointment, and if you need repairs, just drop by the shop.

[An address is attached.]

If it's tech, and it's broken, I can fix it. If it's magitech, no promises, but at least if it blows up it'll blow up me instead of you. [Tony grins.]

And if you just got here and need a charger for your out-of-universe personal device, I do one free upgrade for any new Dreamfolk.

[Please come give him work. He is so bored. Also, he took out a loan to cover equipment and rent on this place, and he needs money.]

[The Fool has, at last, discovered a good reason to make use of this particular aspect of Aifaran technology. Included in this particular post is a photograph of several pieces of woodwork, ostensibly carved by the Fool's own hand. It is accompanied by an offer.]

Hello, dear friends--and dear acquaintances.

I should think it goes without saying that we Dreamfolk left much of ourselves behind us in our old worlds when we arrived in Konryu. For some I imagine that is a blessing, and a curse for others--and for others still, like so often is the case, the feelings are more complicated than that.

It is with this thought in mind that I would like to extend to each of you a kindness: a small, wood-carved token of remembrance, representing the world that you came from, or something of that world that you cherish.

If this offer is of interest to you, please either respond here, or seek me out at my apartment above Die Rosa Tulpe.

[Padparadscha is lying around on the common room couch in Breakwater Wing, looking like they've been considering something. There's still that ever-present air of amusement to their look, though, like it's not something very serious to them.]

So, with so many of us from different worlds, there must be many different methods we use to decorate ourselves and our homes, right?

I wonder if you could tell me what kinds of things you treat gems with in your worlds - the things you use on them to protect them, or hone them. Or even just what you do with them. I keep getting worrying comments off these "salespeople" of yours.

[From the deep laugh they give after that last remark, it's not actually very worrying, just funny.]

Do any of you paint stones? Does it damage them? [They're not going to paint their own surface anytime soon, but they do want to talk to the scientists here sometime about substitutes for their powder, and something more waterproof like this "paint" they have here would be nice.]
