hello, network.
i am era ra.
there are others who can see this
that was a question. i do not yet know how to access the other punctuation symbols.
my occupation where i come from is that of an adventurer.
i have a variety of skills if anyone is in need of assistance. i am particularly talented in disciplines of combat, but am a skilled botanist, leatherworker, and goldsmith. i like to keep busy.
i was told that they are safe, but i am searching for some incredibly important possessions of mine that may have arrived without me. they are thirteen crystals of various colours and shapes that can fit within the palm of one's hand. each has a single symbol etched within it. all of them are unique.
i have nothing of value i can offer in return at the moment, but should any of you come across them i would be grateful if they were returned to me.
i hope you are all well. i look forward to meeting you.

Welcome to Konryu, Era. I am called the Fool.
[a pause while he considers his question, and then,]
These crystals you mentioned; are they of opaque colours, or shall I look for something that more resembles glass?
text;
thank you for the welcome.
they are multi-faceted. light can shine through, though they are not clear as glass.
they hold remnants of magic that i am attuned to.
[Text]
[It's the Right Thing To Do, after all.]
Hopefully no one else is using them, or hiding them. Would anyone else be able to use them?
[Building off of the discussion with The Fool.]
My name is Nita Callahan. I'm glad to meet another newcomer to this place, Era Ra.
[She's assuming when it comes to the capital letters, though.]
It's nice to not feel alone in a strange place.
no subject
they chose me as their successors, so they would be naught more than pretty stones to anyone else. they will likely react if i am in their vicinity.
when did you arrive here [question mark]
no subject
[Because that would be REAL unfortunate, right there.]
I showed up here right at the beginning of the month.
[Which was kind of a whiplash after it being nearly summer for her back home.]
What about you, Era?
no subject
some have survived millennia unharmed. it is doubtful they would be damaged here, but i cannot say for certain.
i arrived near three days prior.
no subject
We'll keep on the lookout, regardless.
That's not a lot of time. How is your room at the Dreaming Bridge so far, or are you rooming elsewhere?
no subject
i have been wandering and yet to stay in my assigned room.
no subject
[Nita's done some wandering of her own, but there's doubtless more places to explore other Dreamfolk have found.]
no subject
many unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells. i cannot begin to describe it all.
no subject
I might run across you next time I go out, and I'll definitely let you know if I see those crystals, okay?
no subject
you might. i have no intention of ceasing my wandering any time soon.
i appreciate your assistance. thank you.
text
As for the crystals, I haven't seen anything, but I will let you know if I do.
As for combat skills...what kind do you possess?
text
it's good to meet you, despite the circumstances. thank you for your offer of assistance.
i possess both physical and magical combat skills. it would be difficult to list them all. if you are curious about something specific it might be easier to ask, and i can tell you if i am familiar or not.
text
And it's nice to meet you, too. And don't mention it; I'm glad to help.
Physical combat skills? As in hand-to-hand and/or weapon?
[ Tells you what Sheena is familiar with, doesn't it? ]
text
yes, and yes. you will need to be more specific, however.

Welcome to Aifaran, Era. My name is Pepper, I've been here for a couple years. Things from our worlds sometimes do show up, but usually if it didn't come with us then it's still at home, right where we left it.
There's some curio shops in the city where a lot of Dreamfolk items will end up if they arrive later, although sometimes things come directly to us. I can show you the ones I'm familiar with, introduce you to the shopkeepers if you'd like. They're nice people, but it's good to know how to haggle.
Oh, and I text a lot if you want help with the yimos.
text;
it is good to meet you despite the circumstances.
have you had a choice to return home in those years? i cannot stay here for such an extended period of time.
these were items that i had on my person before i arrived, and three of the sixteen have remained in my possession. it does not make sense to me that the others would not have come with me as well.
i am missing a great deal of other possessions that i had on me just prior to arriving here, but those are easily replaced.
may i ask how you make capital letters and access the rest of the punctuation symbols [question mark]
text;
Something you're gonna learn pretty quick around here: the Dreaming doesn't make a lot of sense. :P
[This is meant to be teasing; Pepper is aware that since Era isn't that familiar with this technology, humor may not come across as well.]
Yeah, sure. I can try explaining over text but it might be easier to just meet in person and then I can answer other questions if you have them? Or try, anyway.
text;
can you confirm that my absence would not be noted nor have an impact [question mark]
that would be very appreciated.
text;
Which, let me tell you, was not a great moment to go back to. But no one even knew I had been gone for two years so. Yeah.
text;
[ she is Not Pleased about this, but what can she do? ]
at least the alliance cannot fall while i am imprisoned here. that is a relief to know.
text;
[Imprisonment wasn't entirely inaccurate, if one chose to look at it that way. Pepper wonders if there's a way to change Era's mind - Konryu has it's challenges, but it's also a great place to be. It helps many Dreamfolk, gives them second chances.]
Nope, your alliance will still be there when you get back. This world and this city aren't too bad, though. It might grow on you, you never know. It's a second home for a lot of people.
no subject
[ having already lost the first twenty-one years of her life she is incredibly sensitive to the thought of losing even one single day. ]
i do not like this. i am skilled with learning incredibly difficult magics more than a millennia old. if there are any trace records i would be interested in investigating.
i exist solely for hydaelyn and her people. this world is not home and it never will be.
no subject
When people have gone home and come back, though, at least some of the time they regain their memories of being here before, if that's any consolation.
[Hm. Era's going to be a bit of a tough nut to crack on the second home thing. Fortunately, Pepper likes a challenge. Aggressive friending is a go.]
The Academy library and the Dreaming Museum are probably good places to do research. And it's okay if Aifaran isn't home - but maybe give it a chance? You might end up liking it here, as a place to visit. Call it a vacation.
no subject
just because it is not and never will be home does not mean i will hate this world or its peoples. if it is not their fault it is not their fault. but i cannot vacation. i cannot. my duty is to my people. to waste even one moment is unforgivable.
no subject
I get that. Seriously, I do. My job back home - and here, but especially at home - is keeping people safe. Superheroes don't get days off, you know?
But recharging and taking care of yourself is important too. It's hard to keep helping people when you've been burning the candle at both ends for a really long time.
[Even if the benefits of rest wouldn't go back with Era when she returned home. Bit of a bummer.]
no subject
i will find the library and the museum and begin my research. thank you.
no subject
Hopefully, maybe, Era will be able to get some rest here, and maybe realize it's okay - and even critical - to recharge sometimes. In order to keep going.]
If you say so.
The Academy library is pretty big but people here can help you around if you need it. Feel free to ping me if you want a study buddy ;)
[Pepper isn't really the scholarly type unless she's on a mission, but she does like meeting new people and getting to know them.]

Anyway! Yeah, it works on the same principles as you being able to read what I'm texting, which is English.
[text]
You mentioned that the missing crystals have symbols on them. Could you describe what they look like?
no subject
it is common enough in eorzea that some find us to be a nuisance. though it is an incredibly dangerous profession and many do not survive long. perhaps that has something to do with the lack of them here.
it is incredibly difficult to describe them to the unfamiliar. i will try.
- amber with two rectangles overlapping each other, like one card on top of the other
- light green with a lyre
- black with a violet meteor
- aqua with a gun
- yellow with three diagonal lines
- black with a red spinning circle. if you are familiar with shuriken it is similar to one of those
- pale blue with a shield
- crimson with what looks like a rapier. it is a teardrop shape
- ivory with the front view of a sword's guard
- green with a triangle pointing to the left, with a curved bottom line
- red with the shape of an axe head
- ivory with a staff whose head looks like a crescent with a small circle within it

Dangerous though it might be, I always saw adventurers as a boon to Tyria. Even adventurers simply passing through an area offered a measure of extra protection to those places that were under assault or out of the reach of our more organized groups.
no subject
the work we do is valuable and appreciated, but so many adventurers die that we often get a reputation for being short-lived.
