hello, network.
i am era ra.
there are others who can see this
that was a question. i do not yet know how to access the other punctuation symbols.

my occupation where i come from is that of an adventurer.
i have a variety of skills if anyone is in need of assistance. i am particularly talented in disciplines of combat, but am a skilled botanist, leatherworker, and goldsmith. i like to keep busy.

i was told that they are safe, but i am searching for some incredibly important possessions of mine that may have arrived without me. they are thirteen crystals of various colours and shapes that can fit within the palm of one's hand. each has a single symbol etched within it. all of them are unique.

i have nothing of value i can offer in return at the moment, but should any of you come across them i would be grateful if they were returned to me.

i hope you are all well. i look forward to meeting you.

My adaptation to this technology was, how shall I say it? Not graceful. It will come with time.

Welcome to Konryu, Era. I am called the Fool.

[a pause while he considers his question, and then,]

These crystals you mentioned; are they of opaque colours, or shall I look for something that more resembles glass?

I'll keep an eye out for them too.

[It's the Right Thing To Do, after all.]

Hopefully no one else is using them, or hiding them. Would anyone else be able to use them?

[Building off of the discussion with The Fool.]

My name is Nita Callahan. I'm glad to meet another newcomer to this place, Era Ra.

[She's assuming when it comes to the capital letters, though.]

It's nice to not feel alone in a strange place.
unfavorableinstigation: Nita looking right, holding a book. (I'm In The Book)

[personal profile] unfavorableinstigation 2019-02-13 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
That's good to know. But can they be damaged, even when they're not in use?

[Because that would be REAL unfortunate, right there.]

I showed up here right at the beginning of the month.

[Which was kind of a whiplash after it being nearly summer for her back home.]

What about you, Era?
unfavorableinstigation: Nita looking right, holding a book. (I'm In The Book)

[personal profile] unfavorableinstigation 2019-02-13 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Nita gets that. They're probably a bit like kernels, that way; supposed to be robust and insanely powerful... but nothing is impossible.]

We'll keep on the lookout, regardless.

That's not a lot of time. How is your room at the Dreaming Bridge so far, or are you rooming elsewhere?
unfavorableinstigation: Nita Callahan kneeling in the woods, drawing a glowing blue diagram on the ground while reading from a book. (Drawing a Spell Diagram)

[personal profile] unfavorableinstigation 2019-02-13 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
What have you found in the city so far?

[Nita's done some wandering of her own, but there's doubtless more places to explore other Dreamfolk have found.]
unfavorableinstigation: Nita working with a Kernel (Wizardry Is Kid Stuff)

[personal profile] unfavorableinstigation 2019-02-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough.

I might run across you next time I go out, and I'll definitely let you know if I see those crystals, okay?

Hello, Era Ra. My name is Sheena Fujibayashi, and it does take some time to get used to this technology, but it looks like you're doing fine so far.

As for the crystals, I haven't seen anything, but I will let you know if I do.

As for combat skills...what kind do you possess?
ninjainviolet: ([Skit!Wonder])

[personal profile] ninjainviolet 2019-02-15 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
You can just call me Sheena. No need to be formal with me.

And it's nice to meet you, too. And don't mention it; I'm glad to help.

Physical combat skills? As in hand-to-hand and/or weapon?

[ Tells you what Sheena is familiar with, doesn't it? ]

From your answer, I gather you're trained in a variety of weapons?
ninjainviolet: ([Calm Ninja])

[personal profile] ninjainviolet 2019-02-27 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we have a dojo here where you can train. And we have quite a few locals who are students. They may be able to help you in your search.

[ Since it's a gathering place. And also, Gene may give her a job. ]

[Oh hey! New person. Pepper is still not her normal chatterbox self, but helping newbies adjust sounds like excellent distraction and use of her time.]

Welcome to Aifaran, Era. My name is Pepper, I've been here for a couple years. Things from our worlds sometimes do show up, but usually if it didn't come with us then it's still at home, right where we left it.

There's some curio shops in the city where a lot of Dreamfolk items will end up if they arrive later, although sometimes things come directly to us. I can show you the ones I'm familiar with, introduce you to the shopkeepers if you'd like. They're nice people, but it's good to know how to haggle.

Oh, and I text a lot if you want help with the yimos.

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I did one time, but that was... well, special and super mega complicated circumstances. We can't come and go when we want, which sort of sucks, but it's not too bad here. There's a way to kind of *see* what's happened at home but not physically go back, though.

Something you're gonna learn pretty quick around here: the Dreaming doesn't make a lot of sense. :P

[This is meant to be teasing; Pepper is aware that since Era isn't that familiar with this technology, humor may not come across as well.]

Yeah, sure. I can try explaining over text but it might be easier to just meet in person and then I can answer other questions if you have them? Or try, anyway.
lasergrenades: (Something isn't right)

text;

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-15 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It won't. Every Dreamfolk I've known has said that it's like time froze at home, just like they told us at the Dreaming Bridge. The time we spend here... it's like it happens in the space between seconds. When I went back for a few weeks, it was to the exact same moment I left from originally.

Which, let me tell you, was not a great moment to go back to. But no one even knew I had been gone for two years so. Yeah.
lasergrenades: (All the thoughts)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-16 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
More or less, yeah. We don't usually remember our time here when we go home. People have been working on changing that, but it's super tricky magic and the original caster has been dead for half a millennia.

[Imprisonment wasn't entirely inaccurate, if one chose to look at it that way. Pepper wonders if there's a way to change Era's mind - Konryu has it's challenges, but it's also a great place to be. It helps many Dreamfolk, gives them second chances.]

Nope, your alliance will still be there when you get back. This world and this city aren't too bad, though. It might grow on you, you never know. It's a second home for a lot of people.
lasergrenades: (Maybe you just caught him on a bad day)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-16 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, most of us are pretty unhappy about not keeping the memories. But it's not so much that it takes them. We just can't take them with us.

When people have gone home and come back, though, at least some of the time they regain their memories of being here before, if that's any consolation.

[Hm. Era's going to be a bit of a tough nut to crack on the second home thing. Fortunately, Pepper likes a challenge. Aggressive friending is a go.]

The Academy library and the Dreaming Museum are probably good places to do research. And it's okay if Aifaran isn't home - but maybe give it a chance? You might end up liking it here, as a place to visit. Call it a vacation.
lasergrenades: (What do you mean)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's fair. Being in Aifaran is a lot to swallow and it's not all sunshine and butterflies.]

I get that. Seriously, I do. My job back home - and here, but especially at home - is keeping people safe. Superheroes don't get days off, you know?

But recharging and taking care of yourself is important too. It's hard to keep helping people when you've been burning the candle at both ends for a really long time.

[Even if the benefits of rest wouldn't go back with Era when she returned home. Bit of a bummer.]
lasergrenades: (Chatting)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-02-20 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Everyone needs to recharge. Even machines need maintenance, and she's pretty sure Era isn't an actual machine.

Hopefully, maybe, Era will be able to get some rest here, and maybe realize it's okay - and even critical - to recharge sometimes. In order to keep going.]

If you say so.

The Academy library is pretty big but people here can help you around if you need it. Feel free to ping me if you want a study buddy ;)

[Pepper isn't really the scholarly type unless she's on a mission, but she does like meeting new people and getting to know them.]
lasergrenades: (Pleased)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2019-03-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, the magic that lets us understand each other when we speak works for reading too, most of the time. Occasionally the Dreaming gets a little fiddly about it, but you won't have to learn new languages or need translations. Which is super convenient, let me tell you. Not knowing Kedanese when I was here before was *really* annoying; there's like 30 dialects or something anyway so that makes it even trickier.

Anyway! Yeah, it works on the same principles as you being able to read what I'm texting, which is English.

Hello, and welcome. My name is Trahearne, and I have to say, it's been quite some time since I've spoken to an adventurer. It's not a very common profession here, though I'm not sure why.

You mentioned that the missing crystals have symbols on them. Could you describe what they look like?
necrocabbage: (C; hey look over there)

[personal profile] necrocabbage 2019-02-16 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the list. I'll pass this list to my employer at the antique shop where I work. We mostly deal in wares native to this world, but there's always a chance he might come across one of your crystals.

Dangerous though it might be, I always saw adventurers as a boon to Tyria. Even adventurers simply passing through an area offered a measure of extra protection to those places that were under assault or out of the reach of our more organized groups.
necrocabbage: (C; considering)

[personal profile] necrocabbage 2019-02-25 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's a sad state of affairs, to say the least. Is the lure of fame and fortune truly strong enough to send so many to their deaths?
